CONSULATE OF MEXICO IN INDIANAPOLIS

Consular Entrepreneurship Program for Mexican Women Abroad

With the mission to empower Mexican women and provide them with tools that would promote their professional development and the well-being of their children and families, the Government of Mexico, through the coordinated work of the Institute for Mexicans Abroad (IMME) and this Consulate, offers the “Consular Entrepreneurship Program for Mexican Women Abroad” (PCEME), also known as “Mexicana Emprende”. This virtual initiative seeks to support and assist Mexican women who plan to start or expand their small or medium-sized businesses. The program has several components: online training through the DreamBuilder platform, guidance from the Consulate’s local economic and financial partners, presentations by Mexican financial institutions, and mentorships with community leaders who help participants develop or expand their business ideas and design a Business Plan. Across the four generations of Mexicana Emprende in which participants from the Consulate in Indianapolis have enrolled, 58 women have graduated, many of whom operate businesses well-known within the Hispanic and Latino community in the state capital, regularly participating in cultural and community fairs and events.

Given that PCEME is funded by the Government of Mexico and aims to strengthen Mexican women’s entrepreneurship, the close collaboration the Consulate has established with Emprendedoras Latinas en Indiana (ELI), as well as other entities of the Red de Apoyo Indy—including LISC, HBC, SEND, and La Plaza—have cleared the way to Mexican graduates to continue advancing the professionalization of their businesses. This collaboration has also allowed the inclusion of male participants and individuals of other nationalities interested in pursuing the program.

Financial Advisory Window

Additionally, the Consulate has a Financial Advisory Window (Ventanilla de Asesoría Financiera), promoted and operated by Financial Center First Credit Union (FCFCU), and supported by partnerships with other banking and financial institutions. Its primary objective is to provide financial education to the Mexican, Hispanic, and Latino community in Indiana. These financial education programs focus on topics such as money management, budgeting, debt consolidation, access to credit lines, savings accounts, and fraud prevention, among others. The goal is to increase awareness of financial alternatives available in the state, regardless of immigration status. Financial Center has also played a key role in every edition of Mexicana Emprende, including the final stage of the program, providing feedback and recommendations on the graduates’ business plans.
